A classic country tweed jacket in heavyweight tweed, tailored for the outdoors
Heavy tweed for the outdoors
For this bespoke combination, we selected a light brown tweed with a windowpane pattern, woven from 100% wool in a robust 500 grams per meter quality.
The fabric originates from England and comes from the Allsport II collection by Huddersfield Fine Worsteds. This collection is specifically designed for countrywear and is known for its durability, structure, and traditional colour palette.
The tweed sports coat: classic and functional
The sports coat is made in a three-button model with notch lapels, patch pockets with flaps and button closures, and 3 spaced buttons on the sleeve, a detail reminiscent of classic country tweed jackets. The interior has a purple lining, offering contrast to the outer fabric while adding warmth and luxury.
A notable detail is the inclusion of zippered interior pockets. These zippers are subtly integrated and hand-finished, ensuring the aesthetic character of the jacket is preserved while its functionality is enhanced.
Zipped pockets and the freedom of bespoke tailoring
Zippered interior pockets are rarely found in ready-to-wear garments, but within bespoke tailoring, they are a valuable addition. They provide a secure place for valuables such as a passport, phone, or wallet, without compromising the silhouette or comfort of the jacket.
In a bespoke tweed country jacket, the placement of the zipper can be entirely tailored to the client’s preference: horizontal, vertical, concealed behind a facing, or even finished with leather for extra durability. The length and depth of the pocket itself can also be adjusted. This is just one of many examples where bespoke tailoring distinguishes itself from standard solutions: every detail contributes to ease of use, comfort, and longevity.
The tweed waistcoat: elegance in simplicity
The matching waistcoat is made from the same tweed, with a 5-button closure and a purple lining on the back. Here too, the buttonholes are hand-stitched, a labour-intensive yet essential hallmark of traditional craftsmanship. The waistcoat can be worn both formally and informally, for example over a flannel shirt or under a heavy overcoat during cold autumn walks.
Harmony of fabric, function and style
This combination demonstrates how a country jacket can be much more than just outerwear for the countryside. By working with high-quality fabrics, thoughtful functionality, and subtle style choices, such as the zippered pockets and purple lining, a unique ensemble is created that feels equally at home in rural surroundings or in the city.
Working with checked fabrics: precision in bespoke tailoring
Handling a pattern like the windowpane in this tweed requires precision and experience. In bespoke tailoring, the check is not forced to follow the cut, the cut is adjusted to respect the check. This means aligning the pattern across the shoulder seam, down the back, and where the sleeve meets the front panel.
In this design, each pattern piece was carefully considered to maintain visual balance throughout. Even in complex areas like pocket flaps or the collar, the windowpane lines up as closely as possible. This is no coincidence, but the result of time, craftsmanship, and a commitment to quality.
