About De Oost Bespoke Tailoring: Dress Conscious

At De Oost, everything revolves around creating bespoke clothing that truly suits you. Our philosophy, Dress Conscious, reflects our dedication to craftsmanship, personal attention, and the highest quality artistry.

We believe that bespoke clothing is more than just a product; it is a combination of tradition, passion, and perfection. Compare it to an experience in a fine restaurant: only expertise, experience, the finest fabrics and materials, a meticulous process, and welcoming service lead to a unique result. In other words, clothing that tells your story.

Why “Dress Conscious”?

To Dress Conscious means understanding why your clothing is made the way it is and by whom. This is because you are actively involved in the creation process and aware of the considerations that shape each decision. Together with our experienced staff, who guide you step by step through the entire process, choices become more than mere options—they become translations of your values and principles. Only then does a bespoke suit become a true fusion and expression of who you are and what you stand for.

Our Story

De Oost was founded in 2004 when Jean-Paul Samson traveled to Vietnam and met master tailor Mr. Nguyen. What he discovered was craftsmanship practiced the old way, meticulous handwork, pattern cutting, and construction techniques that had largely disappeared from Europe. The garments Mr. Nguyen's atelier produced surpassed even the finest Italian and Savile Row suits Jean-Paul had previously worn.

Rather than simply importing this work, Jean-Paul built a partnership. Today, De Oost operates as a true bespoke tailoring house with two locations: our construction atelier in Vietnam, led by Mr. Nguyen, his family, and their team of craftspeople, and our fitting and alteration atelier here in Amsterdam.

This structure allows us to offer genuine bespoke tailoring—hand-cut patterns, baste fittings, full canvas construction—at more accessible prices than traditional European ateliers, while maintaining the hands-on expertise essential to proper tailoring. Crucially, all alterations following your fittings are performed here in Amsterdam by our own team of experienced tailors who handle everything from adjusting shoulder pitch and sleeve pitch to completely restructuring garments. We work on our own pieces and also offer alterations and repairs on high-end ready-to-wear and made-to-measure from houses like Brunello Cucinelli and Cesare Attolini, and we specialize in both menswear and ladies tailoring, including bridal alterations.

Craftsmanship and Expertise

At De Oost, we exclusively use traditional techniques while welcoming new insights in technical and stylistic fields. Every garment is entirely handmade, from crafting the personal pattern to the final stitch. Our materials are sourced from the most renowned suppliers worldwide, and every detail—from buttonholes to inner canvas—is crafted with the utmost care.

When you work with De Oost, you're working with tailors who understand construction, can diagnose fit issues, and have the skills to solve them—not salespeople with tablets.

Our People

At De Oost, passionate artisans with a shared love for traditional tailoring and hospitality work together. Our team consists of specialists with years of experience and an eye for detail, treating every client with the same care and attention.

Hospitality and pampering our guests are what we stand for. Hospitality means welcoming people warmly, as if they were in your own home, recognizing that each person is unique.

We combine knowledge, technique, and social skills to provide you not only with a beautiful garment but also with an enjoyable and memorable experience.
