When it comes to women's trousers, it's not just about appearance; it's about celebrating your unique style and ensuring comfort.

In this article, we delve deeper into the world of tailored women's trousers, exploring how models, fit, and materials collaborate to create a perfectly fitting pair of pants.

Curious about how the perfect tailored pants can enhance your style and comfort?

1. Models of Tailored Women's Trousers

When having women's trousers tailored, there is an unlimited variety of models possible, with the examples below being just a selection:

a. Straight Tailored Trousers: Timeless and Versatile

A straight model is timeless and flatters almost every body type. The versatility of this classic trouser model is evident in the ability to experiment with measurments, giving the pants a unique and personal twist.

Whether opting for an ankle-length version for a modern look or a slightly longer style for a timelessness and elegant effect, the straight model provides a canvas to express your own stylish signature.

The timeless nature of this model makes it suitable not only for various body shapes but also for different occasions, making it a versatile choice for any woman aiming for timeless elegance and comfort.

Straight model trousers are often crafted and worn by female professionals.

b. Wide Tailored Trousers: Quirky Elegance

Wide trousers add a wayward elegance to a suit, making it a stylish choice for women seeking a refined yet effortlessly chic appearance.

When choosing wide trousers, the choice of fabric is crucial; a flowy fabric generally drapes better, contributing to a flowing silhouette. Pay attention to the length of both the trousers and the jacket, as a well-balanced look enhances overall elegance.

This style is a perfect combination where comfort and style go hand in hand. The wide trouser model not only offers visual interest but also freedom of movement, making it a versatile choice for various occasions, from informal gatherings to stylish events.

It's important to consider how you combine wide trousers. If you plan to wear them for office days, it's better to have more fitted upper clothing to avoid an overly loose and casual look.

c. Flared Tailored Trousers: Fashionable and Unique

A flare model is fashionable but requires attention to the choice of fabric and fit. The absence of stretch in the fabric results in a different falling effect than you might be used to.

Although less timeless than a straight or tapered model, the flare model has the potential to make a bold statement, especially when willing to experiment with your style.

It creates a striking look perfect for special occasions. This stylish choice for a flare model not only provides the opportunity to showcase your personal style but also to demonstrate confidence and boldness, making it a powerful fashion statement.

d. Tapered Tailored Trousers: Contemporary and Streamlined

A tapered trouser model is a contemporary and streamlined choice carefully designed to subtly emphasize the shapes of the female body.

The characteristic tapered design means the trousers narrow from the hips to the ankles, resulting in a streamlined silhouette that looks not only modern but also extremely elegant.

This not only creates a contemporary look but also a flattering fit that emphasizes the natural curves of the body, making the tapered model a versatile choice for various occasions.

A tapered model trouser accentuates femininity, so think carefully about whether it's too tight for the occasion and the look you have in mind.

These examples are just the tip of the iceberg. As experienced tailors, we can create any imaginable model, tailored to your specific preferences and body shape.

2. Fit: Freedom of Movement and Durability

Tailored trousers demand attention to fit, by playing with the measurments to give each trouser model a unique touch that perfectly aligns with your desires and style preferences.

The height of the waistband, is a crucial aspect contributing significantly to the overall appearance of your trousers. What makes tailoring so special is the ability to adjust the waistband height to the customer's personal preference. This opens the door to a world of possibilities to create the perfect trousers that are not only ideal in fit but also perfectly align with your personal style.

Wearing wide trousers at hip height gives a casual and relaxed look, while the same wide trousers at waist height can create a more elegant look.
The difference in waist height provides the opportunity to adjust the trousers to various styles.

Another important point is the length of the trousers, with tailoring offering flexibility to meet specific length preferences. Whether you lean towards ankle-length trousers for a contemporary and modern look or prefer a slightly longer style for a timeless and classic look, tailored trousers make your wishes possible.

For the right fit for your tailored trousers, we not only consider sizes but also emphasize highlighting the natural female forms, taking into account the points you would like to accentuate or conceal.

How Freedom of Movement Influences Your Sizes:

In fabrics for trousers and pantsuit without stretch, space in the seat and around the thighs is essential.
The importance of sufficient room for movement is often underestimated but is crucial for experiencing comfort and prolonging the lifespan of the trousers. So, it's not just a matter of style and fit but also of practical comfort and ensuring the quality of the garment in the long run.

3. Influence of Materials: Light vs. Heavy Weight

Materials have a direct impact on how trousers fall:

Lightweight:
Light fabrics provide a flowing fall and are ideal for warmer days. They give an airy and comfortable appearance, perfect for a fresh and modern look.

Heavyweight:
Heavy fabrics bring a sense of luxury and elegance. They drape beautifully around the body and add a dose of drama to your outfit, perfect for a more formal, chic appearance.

Choosing suitable fabrics is vital when making tailored women's trousers. Here are some commonly used fabrics and their characteristics:

Wool:

  • Why: Wool is a popular choice due to its versatility. It breathes well, regulates temperature, and has natural stretch, providing comfort for daily wear.

  • Effect on Fit: Wool falls beautifully and maintains its shape well. It offers sufficient structure for models like the straight and tapered models while providing comfort and flexibility.

Cotton:

  • Why: Cotton is light and breathable, making it ideal for casual trousers or warmer seasons. It also has natural softness.

  • Effect on Fit: Cotton offers a more relaxed fit and is suitable for wide models. It can also be used for a straight model, but it gives a more casual look.

Linen:

  • Why: Linen is known for its airiness and coolness, making it perfect for summer trousers. It has a unique texture and falls loosely.

  • Effect on Fit: Linen gives a relaxed, casual look and is suitable for wide and flare models. It may be less suitable for tight, structured models.

Gabardine:

  • Why: Gabardine is a sturdy, durable fabric often used for formal trousers. It has a smooth finish and retains its shape well.

  • Effect on Fit: Perfect for straight and tapered models. It gives a structured appearance and is ideal for formal or business occasions.

Stretch Fabrics (e.g., Cotton-Spandex blends):

  • Why: Stretch fabrics add comfort to tighter models. They provide more flexibility and are great for daily wear.

  • Effect on Fit: Suitable for models like the tapered model, as the stretch fabric follows the contours of the body without restricting the fit.

The key is to choose the fabric based on the intended use and the desired effect.

Tailors often adjust the choice of fabric based on the customer's personal preference, body type, and intended use, which is essential for achieving the desired fit and appearance.

Tailored women's trousers go beyond following trends. It's about your clothing reflecting your style and personality.

By being aware of models, fit, and materials, you can create tailored trousers that not only look beautiful but also wear comfortably.

Case: Ladies Suit Combination

Lisa is looking for a suit she can wear to work, but also something she can mix and match for casual occasions yet still appear well dressed.

De Oost Bespoke Tailoring’s Advice

De Oost advices Lisa not to have a suit tailored, but an outfit which can be worn as one set, of which the jacket, waistcoat and trousers are also suited to be mixed and matched with other garments. The connection is the striped ‘main’ fabric which is incorporated in every piece.

1. Material

The jacket is made from a 350 gram Wool/Alpaca/Polyamide which makes it crease free, soft to the touch and has a luxurious appearance. The pattern is a multicheck. The waistcoat and trousers are made from a light weight 260 gram 110’s wool with a fancy stripe. The combination of a classic fabric with a stripe accent adds a special touch without being to prominent, adding to a well groomed appearance which is also crease free. Stripes add to a slim frame and create length.

2. Model

The jacket is inspired by the Chanel jacket. Stand up collar with a concealed button placket, made from faux leather to give the whole piece a sturdy look. The sleeve cuff also has this leather detail. The waistcoat is single breasted with a straight cut bottom, with leather buttons and faux leather accents. The trousers have a flare model, tapered and from the knee down wider. The length is of the trousers is exactly cut that the legs drape over the heel, but do not get stuck on the instep.

3. Measurements

The jacket is measured with a snug fit except the waist. This makes the jacket drape straight without having the appearance of being to wide when wearing the jacket opened, or closed. The sleeves are measured as snug as possible to add to a well connected fit. The jacket is measured a bit shorter in length, making it easier to combine with, for example, a pair of jeans.
The waistcoat is measured snugly with the length extended over the waistband. This way, the shirt or waistband won’t show when Lisa is standing up.

4. Make

Of course, custom- and tailor made. The jacket is made in a unlined construction. There is no canvas nor lining. This makes the jacket extra light and supple, and less warm. The weight of the fabrics add sufficient structure for a perfect drape.
